Sparks Bristol, Bristol, for Artspace and Global Goals Centre, with Invisible Circus

Located in a former department store, Sparks Bristol offers visitors retail and education opportunities. Visitors can experience a range of shops, installations, events and more in each curated department. The upstairs is a hub for local artists, offering affordable studios, rehearsal and performance space.

The Bell, Ticehurst, for AreYou?, with We Like Today, Chris Baxter, Ben Stagg Architects and Gleeds

The Bell, voted Sunday Times ‘UK Pub of the Year’, has been revamped with a £2m development. The pub is a hub for social value generated through activities such as employment, a constant presence in the village, and the establishment of a new venue for the village. Such as, a zero waste shop and the Old Haberdashery have been offered 5 year nil-rent opportunities, and 100 people come together each month for the village quiz.

New Greenhill Building, London Borough of Harrow, for Harrow Arts Centre, with Chris Dyson Architects, Webb Yates, KLA, Studio Emmi and PT Projects

The Harrow Arts Centre’s The New Greenhill Building, built with £4m from the London Borough of Harrow and the GLA’s Good Growth Fund, with the conversion of former farm buildings temporary spaces with a new purpose-built multi-function arts building. The structure has 5 flexible rooms, ranging from 40sqm to 70sqm to host the 1,000 classes and events a year at the centre, and act as a community hub, for seniors and minority groups.

Houlton, Rugby, for Urban&Civic and Aviva Investors, with the Houlton Project Team

More than 1,000 homes have been built in five years at Houlton, Rugby, out of an eventual 6,200 over the duration of the 473ha project. Activation comes in the form of Community Gardens voted on by locals, now with 66 active volunteers, aged 4 to aged 87.

LJ Works, London Borough of Lambeth, for London Borough of Lambeth, with Architecture 00, Jan Kattein Architects, Public Works and Meanwhile Space CIC

A repurposed waste site in Gastineau Yard, Loughborough Junction, comprises 1,750sqm of affordable employment space with business support, training and retention of a local food growing project for the residents of Brixton. A £2.5m investment in the local area, with the Mayor of London’s London Regeneration Fund contributing £1.6m and Lambeth Council’s £900,000 helped realise this community-based project.

Tooting Works, London Borough of Wandsworth, for Business Launchpad, with alma-nac, Townlab and Dollman Ralston

Tooting Works is a workspace for 68 organisations with 97 office spaces spread over 4,273sqm. An open kitchen and dining space supports the local community by facilitating cooking classes and expanding on the success of local catering initiatives funded by the charity.
