Site experience walks with women, girls, and gender-diverse people developed a shared perception for LLDC’s work in hotspot sites. A Women and Girls Safety Charter was signed by local key stakeholders and landowners to ensure an approach that aligns with the findings. The engagement project intends to influence infrastructure and planning powers, such as the allocation of Section 106 monies and the use of the neighbourhood portion of Community Infrastructure Levy.

The Edgware Town Centre masterplan will deliver 3,365 new homes, including 1,150 affordable homes, 11.9 acres of green and open space including the new 4.7 acre Deans Brook Nature Park. As part of a Big Listen initiative, the project has met with almost 3,000 residents in over 140 meetings to inform the £1.7bn project.

The Church End Growth Area Masterplan and Supplementary Planning Document was informed by face-to-face consultations withe community, a Commonplace online survey and other targeted sessions. The 26ha Church End Masterplan includes 1,300 new homes with an estimated development cost of £525m.

Waltham Forest’s Affordable Housing Commission established the Strategic Tenants and Residents (STAR) panel to create 27 community recommendations for the Council’s pledge to build 1,000 new homes for social rent by 2026. The council has a target of 27,000 new homes of all tenures over the next 15 years, with the STAR panel as a key informer to ensure community engagement as the development continues.

The Earls Court Development Company is developing a masterplan for the 16ha former Earls Court Exhibition Centre site. With a vision for a fully inclusive neighbourhood supporting everyone in the community, the Public Realm Inclusivity Panel was created alongside other engagement activities. The panel comprises a broad spectrum of individuals aged 15+, including young and older people, caregivers and those with disabilities.

The Phoenix’s circular engagement group was initiated through discussions with the Phoenix Rising campaign group, who initially opposed the development within the South Downs National Park. More than 100 formal engagement meetings and a three-day Design Festival in September 2021, have ensured a more sustainable and inclusive development that aligns the Phoenix Design Code with the community. Engagement has been maintained through ‘meanwhile events’ with over 5,000 attendees.

Located in Manchester’s Medieval Quarter, between Manchester Cathedral and Chetham’s School of Music, The Glade of Light commemorates the 22 lives lost in the 22 May, 2017 Manchester Arena Bombing. From the outset of the project, Manchester City Council has maintained a “families first” approach with those who lost a family member. Throughout this process the families have been consulted and engaged on the location of the memorial and the design proposals.

Named after Eva Hartree (1873-1947), the first female mayor of Cambridge, 49ha of industrial and brownfield land are being transformed into a new mixed-use neighbourhood for 10,000 people. The Engagement Strategy for Hartree includes a hybrid series of in-person and online meetings, bolstered by innovative events to connect with as many people from as many demographics as possible.
