Meridian Water, London Borough of Enfield, for Enfield Council and Strategic Infrastructure Works, with Taylor Woodrow, Arup and Stace

The £6bn Meridian Water, one of the largest regeneration projects in London, has a scope of over 25 years. It will provide 10,000 homes over its course with the first twenty delivered in September 2023 including family-sized housing, accessible homes, and single bedroom flats. Enfield Council funded the £46m Meridian Water station, completed in 2019, and considered a linchpin for the development.

St Paul’s Gyratory Transformation Project, City of London, for City of London Corporation, with NRP, LDA Design and Transport for London

Through the closure of a three lane carriageway, the St Paul’s Gyratory Transformation Project will create a 3000sqm public area focused on green infrastructure and sustainable water management. Phase two will remove the rotunda and roundabout outside the former Museum of London site. The £14m project will contribute to a biodiversity corridor which will be part of a new Leisure Walk from Peckham to Epping Forest.

Aberdeen City Vision, Aberdeen, for Aberdeen City Council, with LDA Design, Fairhurst and Systra

The £150m project will see the rejuvenation of over 65,000sqm of public realm, split across seven key development areas. Aberdeen City Vision aims to improve the sustainability of Aberdeen by reducing private motorised traffic, congestion and pollution, and making a more enticing environment for active travel, mitigating carbon use during implementation. The design includes play areas, public art, events spaces, and greening the area with trees, planters and rain gardens.

Devonshire Gardens, Cambridge, for Railpen and Socius, with RH Partnership and LDA Design

Three buildings, set in a new public park, will constitute the Devonshire Gardens project. Seventy build-to-rent homes are designed to meet the city’s net-zero carbon ambitions and operate with no reliance on fossil fuels. Additionally, 11,000sqm of workspace will be developed. With the goal of exceeding conventional environmental standards, Devonshire Garden will incorporate 617 cycle spaces, rain gardens and pollinator habitats.

Woolwich Town Centre, Royal Borough of Greenwich, for the Royal Borough of Greenwich, with LDA Design and Studio Weave

At Beresford Square and Powis Street, Woolwich Town Centre proposes a biodiverse, climate resilient market garden adjacent to a public square. The project will seek to construct a permanent market pavilion structure for hosting public activities and events. The project covers 1,325sqm and has secured £21m in funding from Government and Historic England.

Dock Branch, Birkenhead, for Wirral Council, with OPEN, Mott MacDonald, BB Heritage and Walker Sime

The transformation of the Dock Branch railway line is a key part of the Birkenhead 2040 framework, which plans to provide 21,000 new homes as well as 900,000sqm of modernised commercial space including industrial space and car storage. The £24.6m already secured for the project include provisions for the transfer of seven bridges and one tunnel into council ownership. The railway line will become a 800m linear park to combine nature and communal space.
