Designing Cities for and with Women and Girls, London Boroughs of Hackney, Newham, Tower Hamlets and Waltham Forest, for the London Legacy Development Corporation

Site experience walks with women, girls, and gender-diverse people developed a shared perception for LLDC’s work in hotspot sites. A Women and Girls Safety Charter was signed by local key stakeholders and landowners to ensure an approach that aligns with the findings. The engagement project intends to influence infrastructure and planning powers, such as the allocation of Section 106 monies and the use of the neighbourhood portion of Community Infrastructure Levy.

Lancaster West Estate, Kensington and Chelsea – Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea with Penoyre and Prasad, Arup, TACE et al

Following the Grenfell Tower tragedy, the Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea created the Lancaster West Neighbourhood Team to work on the refurbishment of 800 homes on Lancaster West Estate. The team has been working in partnership with residents to select the architects and co-design the refurbishment of the estate itself

Aberfeldy New Masterplan, Tower Hamlets, London – For EcoWorld London and Poplar Harca and with Levitt Bernstein, Morris + Company, ZCD Architects and LDA Design

Aberfeldy New Masterplan is a 20-year regeneration scheme in East London developed by a joint venture between EcoWorld London and housing association Poplar HARCA. A new masterplan was submitted in 2021 which focuses on stakeholder engagement and the community being able to co-design. It will bring 1,600 homes of all tenures, wide green spaces and road, cycle and pedestrian connections.

Soapworks, Bristol - First Base

The consultation for Soapworks used the bespoke app Give-My-View, an engagement tool developed by First Base with Built-ID, with consultation meetings, newsletters, telephone and posted information to receive almost 6,000 responses to their proposals.

Citizens House, Lewisham – Lewisham Citizens and London Community Land Trust with Archio Architects and Kinnear Landscape

Led by Lewisham Citizens, the campaign for affordable housing began in 2014. Once a site was agreed in 2016, Lewisham Citizens and London CLT engaged the local Sydenham community in transforming their own neighbourhood starting with this small piece of land with actions including design workshops and a community steering group

Night Time Strategy Wandsworth, London Borough of Wandsworth for Wandsworth Council with Commonplace

In 2022, Wandsworth launched London’s first-ever Night Time Strategy (NTS), focusing on night workers, women and young people. Using heat maps to identify quiet spots, the strategy aims to enhance safety, support economic growth and increase night-time activity. Collaborations with Transport for London, the Metropolitan Police, community groups and local businesses drive the initiative, creating a safer, more vibrant night-time environment across the borough.
