University of Glasgow Western Campus, Glasgow, for University of Glasgow and Multiplex, with LUC, AECOM, 7N and Arup

Redevelopment of the Western Campus of the University of Glasgow includes the refurbishment of four buildings; one of which, the Adam Smith business school required £50m of the £430m total project budget. The project encompasses 85,000sqm of student accommodation, learning, teaching, and research space; 26,000sqm of which will be the Keystone Building.

The Verdean, London Borough of Ealing, for Peabody and Mount Anvil, with Levitt Bernstein, Kew Gardens, Exterior Architecture, Light Follows Behaviour and Tigg Coll

The Verdean is a £520m development set to create 1,228 new homes, 455 of which will be affordable. Two residential towers, the Oak and the Aster will contain 160 and 170 homes, respectively. Six percent of commercial spaces totaling 780sqm will be allocated to local businesses. The scheme will incorporate additional public realm community connectivity improvements and green spaces.

Brent Cross Town, Barnet – Related Argent and London Borough of Barnet with Allies & Morrison and Makower Architects et al.

The £8 billion, 180-acre Brent Cross Town (BXT) development is one of the largest regeneration projects in Europe. In 2022, BXT delivered local amenities and social infrastructure first, including a visitor pavilion, a cluster of new shops and restaurants and Claremont Park. Initiatives such as ‘Project Play’ and ‘Flourishing index’ to measure wellbeing support a commitment to community

Paradise Birmingham, Birmingham – MEPC

Phase One, which is now complete, features One Chamberlain Square and Two Chamberlain Square, while Phase Two features One Centenary Way (completing 2023), new public squares and connections through the city centre and two further commercial buildings.

Elephant Park, Southwark, London – Lendlease

Over halfway through its timeline, with an estimated completion date of 2026, so far Elephant Park has delivered 1,784 new homes, an energy centre supplying net-zero-carbon heat and hot water to the residents and businesses, with additional capacity for a further 1,000 properties outside the development’s boundary, 32 new retail units for cafes, shops, restaurants and fitness operators, and a brand new 2-acre park at the heart of the masterplan.

King’s Cross

King’s Cross is home to 67 acres of architecture, offices, destination restaurants and retail, homes and education. The landmark development is not due to complete until 2023; however is already seen as a lively place to visit, day and night. The area’s industrial past has inspired the 50 new and 20 repurposed buildings. The public spaces between them are a mix of parks, streets, squares, and gardens, with Granary Square at its heart.

Climate Innovation District, Leeds - Citu Group Developments Ltd

This district consists of family homes, apartments, The Place - a large zero carbon office building and centre for excellence in tackling climate change, retail spaces, a primary school, a care home and a community centre. It spans both banks of the River Aire and is designed to reduce carbon emissions at every stage

The judges were impressed with this landscape-led project and how previously closed-off areas have been reopened to the public. The fact that this new place feels of Manchester was noted, as well as the human scale of its nooks and alleyways. The reuse of the existing security block is playful and creative

This 32-hectare redevelopment project revitalises a long-unused industrial and former brewery site in the city’s heart, featuring £650 million of live projects currently on site. Hastings Commons, Hastings for Hastings Commons Neighbourhood Ventures with IF_DO, Purcell, Buxton, 8Build, Webb Yates, Max Fordham and Simple Works

This community-driven project spans 8,500 sq m, with a core regeneration value of £20 million, extending to £35 million with additional grants and collaborations. The initiative focuses on transforming Hastings Pier and surrounding assets following its 2006 closure, aiming for neighbourhood revitalisation without gentrification. Rents are set at Living Rents, tied to one-third of the median local income, and increase only with inflation, ensuring long-term affordability and community benefit.
