Active travel with Chris Boardman CBE

British cycling legend, Olympic gold medallist and founder of Boardman Bikes, Chris Boardman CBE became known for revolutionising sports performance through his focus on marginal gains. Now a prominent advocate for active travel, Boardman will be speaking about encouraging behaviour change towards walking and cycling in his role as Active Travel Commissioner for England.

NPPF and the principles of well-designed places

Well-designed places are at the heart of the draft NPPF which lays out key principles for future developments. The government’s Chief Planner and Head of the Planning Profession Joanna Averley joins Rachel Fisher, Chief Executive of the RTPI for a discussion of planning and the role of policy in shaping healthy and thriving places.

The autonomous industrial revolution

Cities change in response to industrial revolutions. Martin Prince-Parrott, architect, developer, author and tech founder, asks how the shape and function of a neighbourhood will change, from housing layout to power and data, in support of an autonomous, AI-powered future?

Case studies at The Pineapples stage

From Mayfield to Birmingham Smithfield, Stockport to Sloane Street, this stage features back-to-back projects all day long presented by developers, local authorities, housing associations, architects, designers and specialists.

The suburbanisation of poverty

Professor Nick Bailey from University of Glasgow has been studying how low-income households in private renting have been increasingly pushed to less central locations and explains why this needs wider consideration in this session chaired by award-winning journalist Peter Apps
