The Glade of Light memorial, also shortlisted for a Community Engagement Pineapple, has planted 28 new semi-mature native trees, and replaced 40% of the previous hard landscaping with bio-diverse planting. Alongside input from community engagement and consultation, natural elements are employed to create a tranquil environment to commemorate the 22 lives lost in the 22nd May 2017 Manchester Arena Bombing.

Since its first phase 12 years ago, the 23.30ha site at MediaCity now hosts 7,000 residents, almost 10,000 students across five educational establishments, 250 small to medium-sized businesses as well as a number of large corporates such as Kellogg’s, Ericsson and ITV.

At the old site of ​​Manchester Metropolitan University, Kampus is composed of 5 buildings with a GBA of 67,000 sqm. The project hosts 534 Build-to-Rent (BTR) apartments along with 40,000 square feet of independent bars, cafés and restaurants, acting as an extension to Canal Street. The £250 million space has further uses ranging from food and drink festivals, to cultural events, and art-driven spaces.

 

The Pineapples: A selection of placemaking projects from across the UK, chosen to showcase the wide range of work taking place right now, presented by developers, architects, local authorities, charities, community groups and landscape professionals. All projects were shortlisted at The Pineapples 2024 awards for place.
