Bexleyheath High Streets for All, London Borough of Bexley, for London Borough of Bexley, with We Made That and POoR Collective

A series of events and activities were run from May 2021 and completed at the end of May 2023 to test new approaches to revitalising Bexleyheath town centre. The team behind Bohemia Place Market have been successfully running markets alongside community consultation that have led to wayfinding and accessibility improvements. The scheme conducted 14 youth workshops with 59 students aged between 11-18 years old along with 8 older residents, and 180 young people partaking in an online survey

In March 2022, Way of Life founded Community Life, a long-term strategic commitment, working collaboratively with grassroots initiatives to deliver a positive social impact. Inspired by the idea of ‘offsetting’ (like your flight, or car journey) residents are encouraged to donate to grassroot initiatives on a monthly basis alongside their rent

Centre of Gravity Soapworks, Bristol - First Base

A month-long exhibition in the Soapworks building with local art collective Centre of Gravity provided a showcase for 60 artists and was curated as a mix of inspiring contemporary art, film talks and performance.

Thamesmead Festival, Borough of Bexley for Peabody with Festival Production Group and Serious

Since 2017, Thamesmead Festival, conceived and led by 14 local residents, has celebrated the vibrant diversity of Thamesmead’s 45,000-plus residents. Held each August by Southmere Lake, it has grown to four stages, a Play Zone, a Calm Zone and 45 local vendors. In 2024, it had 8,500 attendees. It complements community initiatives such as a new arts centre, a library and 38 artist studios.

Knitting the Air, London Borough of Tower Hamlets for Poplar HARCA with Caroline Murray, the knitters of East London, EcoWorld London and The Aberfeldy Practice

A creative project in Poplar’s Aberfeldy area uses knitting to visualise air pollution data, raising awareness and sparking conversations about air quality. As the area undergoes major regeneration with over 5,000 new homes and community spaces, nearly 140 knitters have contributed 4,000 hours to craft a large-scale artwork representing a year of pollution data by sensor and pollutant type. With a cost of under £5,000, the project has engaged 130 artists and over 600 participants.
