Entry restrictions and timeline for completed projects

Built works There is no restriction in terms of the completion date for a project being considered for Place of the Year, Creative Retrofit, Public Space, Infrastructure, Building and Healthy Homes. The project should be based in the UK, it must be in-use at the time of entering and we recommend that this has been a notable year in the life of the project. It must be able to be visited by judges during the judging period, if shortlisted.

Place in Progress There is no restriction in terms of start or completion date however the UK place or project must be part-way through its development cycle where at least one phase of the project is complete and in use, with the overall development not yet complete.

Future projects and places Projects entering Future Place, International Future Place or Future Public Realm are awards for unbuilt projects and therefore the project or place should not be complete. For Future Place, if under construction, the first phase of the project should not be complete. Non-UK future projects should enter International Future Place.

Other entry restrictions For initiatives or projects entering Activation, Community Engagement, Community Space, Climate Resilience or Child-Friendly Place, there is no restriction on when the activity took place, and the initiative or project can be over, if it was temporary intervention. We recommend that this was a notable year and/or that the impact or outcome of the project is measurable or demonstrable. For Strategy, the policy or strategy document should be published but implementation may be ongoing. We recommend that the strategy or policy has begun to make an impact.

For projects located outside the UK Categories open to international entries include International Future Place, Activation, Community Engagement, Climate Resilience, Child-Friendly Place, Community Space, and Strategy
